Position Title: Multi Skilled Labourer - Operator– (L4 – Band 3)

Position Objective

To carry out labouring and plant and truck operation duties associated with maintenance and construction of roads and drainage assets, or other associated civil infrastructure under the general supervision of a Supervisor or Leading Hand.

Key Responsibilities

Shall include, but not be limited to:

1. Competent operation of rigid motor vehicle with GVM equal to or greater than 15 tonne or rigid motor vehicle and trailer combination with GCM not exceeding 22.5 tonne.

2. Competent operation of small ride-on equipment and light mechanical plant.

3. Undertake tasks associated with maintenance and construction of roads, drainage and other civil infrastructure including earthworks, concrete, pipelaying, bitumen and vegetation work.

4. Hands on labouring tasks associated with maintenance and construction of roads, drainage and other civil infrastructure.

5. Daily maintenance of assigned plant and work cooperatively with mechanical service personnel in the repair and maintenance of assigned plant, including recording of pre-start checks

6. Provide competent traffic management associated with the control and direction of vehicular traffic through and around work sites.

7. Provide a high level of client service at all times, to both internal and external clients.

8. Complete required paperwork in a prompt and detailed manner, e.g. timesheets, etc.

9. Undertake basic numerical calculations to a standard commensurate with the duties involved in the position.

10. On-the-job training of fellow work colleagues and transfer of knowledge and skills to fellow work colleagues.

11. Compliance with Council’s policies, procedures and other legislative requirements in relation to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Anti-Discrimination, Workplace Health and Safety and Quality Assurance.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• Current General Construction Safety "White" Card

• Current QLD Manual Car ‘C’ Class Open Driver’s Licence

• Current QLD Heavy Rigid Truck ‘HR’ Class Licence

• Current Traffic Controllers Ticket

• Good experience in driving single axle trucks in varying road conditions

• Good experience in operating road construction equipment

• Good experience in construction/maintenance of roads and drainage infrastructure

Desirable

• Previous experience in concrete work

• Certificate III in Civil Construction

• Licence/tickets to operate road construction plant and/or equipment – minimum 2 no. of skid steer loader, roller, loader, backhoe, grader

• Good plant operation skills and competency

• Sound skills in oral and written communication

• Manual handling skills

• Concrete formwork and placement work

• Sound pipelaying skills

Knowledge

Essential

• Sound knowledge of the Workplace Health and Safety regulations relevant to the Construction Industry.

• Standard of education and/or demonstrated ability to read, write and perform basic numerical calculations to a standard commensurate with the duties involved in the position.

• Good knowledge of roads and drainage construction / maintenance works activities.

• Proactively support, assist and communicate with the Leading Hand/Supervisor to complete assigned tasks effectively and efficiently and to improve service delivery.

8. Attending any Toolbox Talks or specific training supplied by Mackay Regional Council.

9. Being familiar with the location of first aid treatment centres, fire protection facilities and evacuation procedures.
