To contribute to the design, planning and coordination of Camden’s open space and public domain areas, so that the future growth areas of Camden are well structured, connected, cohesive and liveable, with high quality infrastructure and facilities that meet the needs of Camden’s communities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Planning and Design
• Develop and prepare concept designs, suitable for internal and external consultation, for a range of open space and public domain projects.
• Develop and prepare documentation, specifications, and cost estimates suitable to issue for tender and construction for a range of open space and public domain projects.
• Prepare strategies and master plans for a range of open space and public domain areas to guide the formulation of the capital works program.
• In consultation with the Team Leader Public Domain Design, and relevant internal stakeholders, develop project briefs suitable to engage consultants for open space and public domain projects.
• Manage the quotation process for consultant engagements in accordance with Camden’s policies and procedures.
• Manage and monitor the performance of consultants to ensure successful project delivery.
• Ensure that projects comply with statutory requirements, have necessary approvals, and conform to required standards and policies.
• Support the reporting of projects through Council’s Project Management Framework
• Provide expert technical advice to other Council Departments regarding the development of policies and strategies to optimise outcomes for open space and public domain areas.
• Assist in the development of Council’s open space and public domain guidelines
• Assist the Team Leader Public Domain Design in programming public domain projects and studies
• Develop and foster effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Prepare reports, presentations, and formal correspondence
• Review landscape drawings, specifications and cost estimates prepared by consultants for land developers and other Council departments.
• Ensure delivery of projects on time and within budget, in accordance with project brief/plans. Undertake any other duties as are reasonably within the limits of the employee's skills, competence, and training.

• Proactively facilitate processes to increase design involvement in key decisions across a range of Council projects and strategies.
• Active involvement and contribution in the implementation of the continuous improvement opportunities to improve Camden’s efficiency and processes
• Maintain current knowledge of legislation, policy and procedures that impact upon all aspects of the role.

• Other relevant duties as required by the Team Leader or Manager from time to time
• Provide back up support and assistance to other officers in the Public Domain Design Team where appropriate
• Act in accordance with Council’s Fraud and Corruption Prevention Policy and Plan at all times as Council will not tolerate fraudulent or corrupt practices by its own staff, contractors or others working for Council.

• Must be aware of operational and business risks. Particularly:
o understand and adhere to the principles of Risk Management within their job role;
o assist Managers and Team Leaders in identifying risks and risk treatments in their job role;
o provide input into various risk management activities;
o report all emerging risks, issues and incidents to their Manager or appropriate officer; and follow Council policies and procedures.
Essential and Desirable Criteria
Essential
• Tertiary degree in landscape architecture (with eligibility for membership to the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects) or other relevant discipline and a minimum 5 years employment experience within the field.
• Proven experience in management of, and involvement in, multi-disciplinary planning and design projects.
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practice design and project management practise including an ability to supervise multiple projects, manage consultants, and manage competing priorities, to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
• Experience in the use of Microsoft desktop software, including Word, Excel and Outlook
• High standard of competency in computer drawing packages including AutoCAD
• Excellence in the preparation of graphics using software including Adobe Creative Suite
• Excellent level of oral, written and graphic communication skills with the ability to convey project information and influence outcomes
• Ability to work independently as well as a member of a work team
• Independent decision-making capacity with the ability to think strategically and creatively within the Council framework of policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of the Local Government operational, planning and statutory context relevant to design.
