Position Title: Labourer – Civil Ops-CP – LV 3 band 2C
Position Objective
To carry out labouring and plant and truck operation duties associated with maintenance and construction of roads and drainage assets and other associated civil infrastructure under the general supervision of a Supervisor or Leading Hand.
Key Responsibilities
Shall include, but not be limited to:
1. Competent operation of rigid motor vehicle with GVM up to 15 tonne
2. Competent operation of small ride-on equipment and light mechanical plant
3. Undertake tasks associated with maintenance and construction of roads, drainage and other civil infrastructure including earthworks, concrete, pipelaying, bitumen and vegetation work
4. Hands on labouring tasks associated with maintenance and construction of roads, drainage and other civil infrastructure
5. Daily maintenance of assigned plant and work cooperatively with mechanical service personnel in the repair and maintenance of assigned plant, including recording of pre-start checks
6. Provide competent traffic management associated with the control and direction of vehicular traffic through and around work sites
7. Provide a high level of client service at all times, to both internal and external clients
8. Complete required paperwork in a prompt and detailed manner, e.g. timesheets, etc
9. Undertake basic numerical calculations to a standard commensurate with the duties involved in the position
10. On-the-job training of fellow work colleagues and transfer of knowledge and skills to fellow work colleagues
11. Commitment to actively participate in training and skill development to suit the work
environment
12. Other responsibilities as delegated by Management within the scope of this position

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
• Current General Construction Safety "White" Card

• Current QLD Manual Car ‘C’ Class Open Driver’s Licence
• Current Traffic Controllers Ticket (or willing to obtain with 3 months of commencement)
• Competent and experienced truck driver
• Competent operation of small ride-on equipment and light mechanical plant
• Demonstrated experience in road and drainage construction and maintenance activities
• Experience in concrete works
Desirable
• Experience in traffic control
• Experience in bitumen tasks
• Current QLD Medium Rigid Truck 'MR' Class Licence
Skills
Essential
• Good truck driving skills and competency
• Good skills and competency in operating small ride-on equipment and light mechanical
plant
• Sound skills in oral and written communication
• Manual handling skills
• Ability to work cooperatively with others and foster a team environment
• Good skills in dealing with internal and external clients
Knowledge
Essential
• Sound knowledge of the Workplace Health and Safety requirements in the Construction Industry
• Sound knowledge of road and drainage construction and maintenance procedures
• Demonstrated ability to read, write and perform basic numerical calculations to a standard commensurate with the duties involved in the position
Desirable
• Understanding of Council’s Enterprise Risk Management Policy and Framework objectives as they impact the position.
Special Requirements
• Willingness and flexibility to work overtime outside normal hours, where required, to undertake assigned tasks
